Eating Out
Eating out when you are first diagnosed can be daunting. With a little preparation however you can enjoy a delicious gluten free meal.
We suggest:
- if possible ring the chef or cook in advance to discuss your dietary needs
- ask about items on the menu that may already be gluten free or can easily be adapted to be gluten free
- be aware of potential sources of less obvious gluten such as stocks, sauces, fried food or icing sugar and ask appropriate questions
- inform staff on basic cross contamination issues
- use your free dining card to assist you in communicating your needs
- if the eating establishment would like further information please use the Catering for Coeliac Disease fact sheet (downloadable PDF below).
Above all be a good gluten free ambassador by being patient and good humoured. By educating others the gluten free dining experience will be improved for all. If you have a positive dining experience please let us know.
